London reports thieves struck the Tower of London and stole a large quantity of cigarettes. The crown jewels were moved to another safe location for the night and had not been returned. Mrs Julia Augusta Cordsmeyer age 83 dies at her daughter Mrs C D Snodgrass home in Tuscumbia. She wed G W Cordsmeyer on April 14 1879. he died March 12 1942. Born December 13 1862 in Danvers Ill she leaves four daughters including Mrs H E Ferrell of Springfield and others.

Prison writs free inmate. court cuts 89 months
In Missouri, Herman Whitesides won release by writ of habeas corpus after Judge Blair ruled he served 89 months beyond the five year maximum for assault with intent of rape. Whitesides had been sentenced May 1, 1938, from St. Louis county and has been imprisoned since.
