International to Close Plant at Sullivan
SULLIVAN MO AP Th International Shoe Co plant Sullivan will close within one week. Production of women s shoes will be moved to other International Shoe plants in Missouri and Illinois. About 300 employees, mostly men, will lose their jobs. The firm said the next six months will be a lay off period and hospital and other benefits will continue.

At Vandenberg Air Force Base California a Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missile exploded in a fireball seconds after liftoff Monday marking the second consecutive launch failure of the base's second generation ICBMs. The Air Force did not reveal the malfunction cause. The Minuteman is a three stage solid fuel rocket designed for rapid, on demand fires from an armored handling system and is smaller and cheaper than Atlas and Titan missiles.
