A mild day with light clearing and partial cloudiness. Temperatures rise to the mid part of the range with highs in the mid to upper fifties and a low in the 40s tonight. Partly cloudy and mild Wednesday with similar temperatures.
James Farmer, noted Negro official, quits as assistant secretary of HEW effective December 21 after 18 months in office. He met 26 minutes with President Nixon. Ziegler calls resignation on very good basis. Nixon praises Farmer and says he will seek continued advice in future service.
The Missouri House approved a key revenue bill raising personal income tax and corporate rates in a 116 to 37 vote, sending the measure to the Senate with an emergency clause passage of 122 to 31. The plan, tied to a $250 million state building bond, faced opposition over revenue projections and fiscal needs.
Chris Bond states a screening committee will vet all job applicants and current staff seeking to remain. He requests a management consultant study by Robert James of Joplin to improve office efficiency before taking office next month. Bond defeated Haskell Holman, who served as auditor for 17 years, in November.

Robinson for illegally profiting from state idle funds by taking 2500 from James B Crismon, former bank president, in exchange for state monies deposited at Bonne Terre bank. The case, read in open court by Judge James T. Riley, sets a December 21 plea hearing. Robinson bonded for 2000 with his Jefferson City home as security.

He warned a rail shutdown would harm the economy and worsen the pre Christmas period, while promising more recommendations if needed. Officials say unions threaten a strike over wages and conditions.
