SWC Approves Letter Pact With Big 8
Athletic directors and head football coaches of the Southwest Conference and the Big Eight endorsed a proposed interconference agreement on recruiting. They back a mutual preenrollment rule requiring athletes to attend the school they sign with or lose eligibility. They also favor a national signing date and recognition of each other’s letters of intent to reduce recruiting troubles. The proposals go to the SWC faculty committee. The Big Eight meets in Kansas City as talks continue by phone with a signing date targeted around February 1 for SWC and February 5 for the Big Eight. A date between is expected.
