Indicted State Treasurer Robinson Faces Grand Jury Report

Cole County grand jury indicted State Treasurer William E. Robinson as reported Saturday. Judge James T. Riley ordered the report suppressed until Monday, with Robinson en route to Jefferson City from Florida. Prosecutors and others denied speaking to the press while jurors expressed frustration at accounts.

Rubella Immunization Clinic Answers for Parents

The Cole County Nursing Service announces Dec 9 10 county wide clinics for children from 1 through sixth grade to receive a new rubella vaccine. A 25 to 50 cent donation will defray costs but no child is refused. Vaccinated children rarely transmit the virus to pregnant contacts. If rubella immunity is uncertain a blood test can confirm. Ford and UAW enter marathon talks over contract deadline

Ford Motor Co and the United Auto Workers began lengthy weekend discussions aiming to finalize a new contract for 166 000 workers before midnight Monday. Subcommittee talks covered insurance unemployment pensions and skilled trades while leaders met separately. A main bargaining table was not expected to convene Saturday with a marathon session planned for Sunday morning. If no local agreement is reached some plants may strike even if a national pact is agreed.

Capitol Caroling returns to Capitol with student choirs

More than 350 carolers assemble in the State Capitol rotunda at 8 p.m. Tuesday for the 32nd Capitol Caroling, a Jefferson City Public School System production featuring freshman, beginning and advanced choirs, the Senior High orchestra and band, and 25 carol and Christmas selections. The event includes No Room at the Inn backdrop by Mildred Smith, decorations by the art department, Donna Haldiman on organ and celesta, and Jim Wallace narrating.

Christmas shoplifting test shocks Belk’s Charlotte store

A writer conducted a four hour test at Belk's in Charlotte to gauge security. Goods valued at 604.28 plus tax were taken with store officials including vice president Leroy Robinson informed. Belk's strengthened staff guards and concealed watchers after the incident.
