CAPE GIRARDEAU Dec 2 AP John Powell a Sikeston insurance agent was acquitted by a U S district court jury of changing and altering ballots in the August 1946 primary election at Sikeston The single charge was the only one the jury was required to consider Powell who served as election judge with Harry Tomlinson and Charles French both of Sikeston Charges against French of conspiracy and airing ballots were dropped Powell testified he did not alter or mark any ballots except those requested noting many illiterates sought assistance The jury of 11 men and one woman reached verdict on the eighth ballot.
