Washington August 29 AP The defense commission outlined to retailers a program to protect consumers from out of line prices driven by defense spending. Ben Lewis chief economist said no total sacrifice is needed and steps include coordinating military purchases to avoid civilian market disruption and building a price reporting system with the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The commission pledged action against unwarranted price increases and would seek government help if needed.
