Syrian jets attacked Israeli patrol boats in the Sea of Galilee with two shot down, including a MIG21. A cease-fire was later agreed as Israel and Syria exchanged air assaults and claims of boats destroyed, with Israeli Army head Rabin calling the act very serious.
The Housing and Urban Development Department approved a 401 grant to Independence Colorado to buy 57 acres for Glendale Park expansion. Senators Symington and Long announced the action. An $8,705 grant to Nevada Missouri will aid purchasing 0.3 acre to join city land for a downtown park and recreation area.
The Federal Reserve Board reports July industrial production rose to 157.5 percent of 1837 59 average, the 10th consecutive gain, despite a sharp drop in automobile output. July's index surpassed June and was 9 percent higher than July last year.

The New York Herald Tribune ceased publication after 114 days without print after labor disputes halted a merger that formed World Journal Tribune Inc. Matt Meyer announced the obituary noting 5,700 total jobs across three merged papers and plans to publish the World Journal Tribune on Sundays and as the afternoon edition.
Sen. Everett Dirksen said the House open housing section of the civil rights bill is unconstitutional and urged more study of urban housing discrimination. He proposed an alternative of a government study rather than extending the housing section. President Johnson seeks a ban on sale and rental discrimination, with House exemptions for small, private or owner-occupied units.
Orbiter is set to begin its first real photography Thursday after a 20 minute TV test. The craft, in an egg shaped orbit, will image Site Zero on the moon’s eastern limb, a region never photographed before, with transmissions planned over several days.
Reports describe naval force deployments ranging 300 to 600 men per mission plus allied troop build up. U.S. and South Vietnamese forces faced alleged attacks on friendly villages with casualties. South Korea dispatched 300 troops toward a 17 000 strong division, raising total Korean manpower in Vietnam to 41 500 while U.S. strength reached 298 000 with a 3 800 man brigade arriving from Fort Devens. Air cavalry units dug in along the Chu Pong Mountain chain near Pleiku and Pleime to deter incursions and block the Ho Chi Minh trail as they fought North Vietnamese forces into the night.
Robert S. Davis a 23 year old Peace Corps teacher in Nigeria apologized after Nigerian staff accused him of insulting Africans. The incident at the Eastern Region Teacher Training College Bo ni disrupted classes and exams. Davis said he intended to stimulate interest not offend and arrived in Nigeria last April from Martinsburg Pennsylvania.
The Rev. L. D. Boatman, a former St. Joseph minister, died Sunday night while delivering a sermon in Palestine Texas. His brother Rev. C. O. Boatman attended the service. Boatman served King Hill Methodist Church from October 1941 to June 1950 before a Kansas City Kan assignment, later retiring to Texas.
The committee may lack witnesses if it proceeds with today’s session as a suit for an injunction mounted by the ACLU on behalf of two of 13 subpoenaed witnesses. The group includes Berkeley antiwar demonstrators and the union says the witnesses are identified with diverse views opposing current military policy.
The Air Force disclosed disciplinary actions against four officials tied to the approval of a $900 million XB70 photo mission that crashed in California on June 8. Col. Albert W iCate was relieved of deputy for systems tests duties and reassigned. Reprimands have been or will be issued to Col. Joe Cotton Col. James G. Smith and John S. McCollum for questionable propriety in the mission.
Sen. J W Fulbright says Hanoi and Beijing are mistaken to think President Johnson is politically isolated over Vietnam. He argues Congress is more warlike than the President and that administration opposition among dove factions may influence enemy bargaining. Fulbright warns Johnson can command major actions if needed.
Senate figures Joseph S. Clark and Jacob Javits urged new federal aid to cities with tax sharing and minimal strings. Clark called for federal standards on grant spending to curb local graft while Javits pitched a loaned share of federal taxes with limited federal control. Kennedy proposed a Marshall Plan style approach offering training and technical help in education housing reconstruction and planning.
The pact breached the 3.2 percent wage price guideline emphasized by the White House as an anti inflation tool. Early estimates ranged from six to eight percent. Roy Siemiller of the International Association of Machinists and William J. Curtin, airline negotiating chair, refused to discuss the contract. Curtin only said he hoped union members would accept it, while an airline spokesman called Siemiller’s backing half hearted and warned of possible rejection.
Theresa Brune, 67, formerly of Vienna, died Monday morning in a St. Louis County nursing home. Born Nov. 2, 1898, she was the daughter of Savier and Ann Koeber and married to John Brune in 1918. Survivors include a daughter Esther Mueller, two sons Edward and Herbert, one sister Mary Zeilman, three brothers, and nine grandchildren. Funeral at Guardian Angel Catholic Church Brinktown at 9 a.m. Wednesday. rosary at 8 p.m. today at a Vienna funeral home.
Marion H Tex Kunzelman former mid Missourian died suddenly at his El Paso home age 59 He was born November 31 1906 in Chillicothe Ohio attended Hugo Oklahoma schools worked long with Frisco Railroad and later supervised insurance division in El Paso He is survived by wife Ethel Payne daughter Carol Jean Kunzelman brother Paul Kunzelman and three Payne brothers Funeral services will be held at a Jefferson City funeral home at 2 pm Wednesday with burial at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens
James Zhinden 54, of Route , died Saturday night. He was born January 2, 1912 to John and Martha Zhinden of Makane. He married Mildred Braman on April 21, 1935. Survivors include three daughters, three sons, six sisters, three brothers, and five grandchildren. Funeral services are Wednesday at a local funeral home with Dr Bryan Carlisle officiating. burial in Makane cemetery.
Funeral services for William Clark Taylor 47 of Henley were held Monday at Hickory Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Brazite. He died Saturday and is survived by his widow Elsie, three sons William Jr Kenneth and Larry, four daughters and five sisters and four brothers. Born May 17 1919 to Thomas A and Nannie Brown Taylor, he married Eleie Mae Belt on Oct 15 1938.

Born December 31 1893 she was married July 30 1913 to Jesse W Martin. Survived by husband a daughter three sons three brothers and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services are at 2 p m Wednesday at a California funeral home with Rev Robert Hilligoss officiating. Burial in California cemetery.
