Absentee ballots decide coroner race in county primary

Results show Basinger with 5,1 Juge and Groner leading in Democratic primary for county coroner with 9,882 and 7,930 tallies respectively. Republican contenders include Stockman 1,855 Leonard 1,807 Miles 363 and Smith 151 while public offices show Groner, Jacobs, Wyatt, and Murry in various counts. Absentee voters counted Friday in 122nd District contests with incumbents Wyatt and Jacobus retaining leads.

Area counties back winners in mid Missouri vote breakdown

Democratic Gov. Hearnes and Republican Roos won easily in the eight county area. Hearnes led by 10,298 votes to 6,185 for Roos. Morris edged Dowd 43,846 to 3,713 for lieutenant governor. Morris carried Maries 510-482 and Osage 418-418, while Eagleton, Davis, and Long posts varied across Camden, Callaway, and Morgan counties. Eagleton faces Curtis in November.

Cole County Votes to Abolish Superintendent Position

Voters approved abolishing the Cole County Superintendent role by a 7 811 to 2 105 margin with 3 620 in favor and 1 819 against. the measure removes the vacant office as part of the amendment. Schools supported the change as part of the Governor chair related reform.

Teen theft charges filed against Jefferson City youths

Juvenile Officer Donald V. Cline filed charges against two 17 year olds for stealing a car from Riley Chevrolet on July 25. The youths were placed in temporary custody and later returned to their parents under state law.
