Frostburg Council Accepts New Light Contract Amid Mayor Protest
At a Frostburg council meeting the new city lighting contract was approved by four Republicans despite opposition from Mayor George Stern and Councilman William P. Sullivan. Stern argued the deal would push lighting costs to about 27 percent of income, far above the usual 10 to 20 percent, and favored a 15 percent cap. The contract also ties cost per light to usage, a change critics say prevents cutting lights to save money. Frostburg currently uses 48 arc lights and about 10 incandescent lights, totaling roughly $5,300 annually.
