About 200 Greek shoppers ride in with the Cumberland and Westernport Electric Railway specials despite bad weather. The day features special fares refunding much of the fare on five dollar purchases. Stores stay open late each evening through Christmas as traffic and sales are expected to set records.
Philadelphia launches a three day relief fete at Hor t icultural Hall by the Emergency Aid Committee to aid war orphans and victims in Europe. The event features made in America products at cost and a booth of nations with foreign consulate involvement. Funds support employments for destitute workers making garments for victims.
Mandan, N. D. Dec. 14. When F. L. Styles and family travel by house boat from Mandan to Miami, Fla., a 4,000 mile voyage, they may meet a pending obstacle. An unfinished report hints Styles may face legal action over a missed payment as they depart Mandan.
Charles Herman Hast 87, a noted Cumberland musician and electrician, died at Allegany Hospital after abdominal surgery following typhoid fever. He played bass in the Cumberland Concert Band and violin in the Cumberland Festival Orchestra, worked as a magneto expert for Queen City Garage, and played for the Central YMCA basketball team. Survived by wife Elizabeth, sister Mrs. William Askey, and four brothers. Funeral Wednesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
