Large turnout for the first annual Vancouver Island track and field meet in Nanaimo on Labor Day saw Cumberland athletes excel. Kay Brown won three trophies including two open events the 60 and 100 yards and set strong times. George Brown earned the Senator Planta trophy for boys 18 and under with a 100 yard time. Henry Watson took second in the men's open 100 yards and won the Nanaimo Lumber Company cup in a thrilling 220 yard race.

Teddy Phillips Hospitalized After Car Crash Near Bevan
Teddy Phillips, travelling toward Bevan, collided with a parked car near Mr. S Hunt's Fourth Street home and crashed into an electric light pole wrecking the vehicle.
