Dana Rowan the 15 year old daughter of A Rowan of Port Alberni completed a swift swim across the Alberni Canal on Tuesday morning. She started at the city dock and reached the fishing boundary mark on the west side of the harbour. Rowan is the granddaughter of Cumberland resident Thomas Bannerman and has lived in the city for several years.

The Cumberland Board considers dropping the fourth year class for the coming term after a trustees committee found it hindered teachers. Parents may send pupils to University of British Columbia, Ladysmith and Nanaimo report willing to offer senior matriculation with added teachers and fees. Duncan High School will also offer the class this term.
