London dispatches report Bolshevist forces near collapse as Petrograd falls per Helsingfors message. An unofficial report says the British fleet captured Kronstadt after a decisive bombardment, with many prisoners and substantial war material seized.
Paris October 17 The forthcoming book by Commandant De Civrteux reveals tensions between British and French high commands and their governments. It centers on the February 1917 Calais conference and failed offensives at Arras and Champagne, accusing Lord Haig of evading orders while crediting French General Foch with general direction.

A head on collision near Courtenay involved two cars. Bert Kirkpatrick was hospitalized at Comox with injuries plus J Little and others treated at Ladysmith Hospital. The Kirkpatrick car sustained heavy damage while the other car escaped with less damage. All injured are reported to be recovering.
Paris date October 17 the supreme council of the peace conference ordered Roumania to withdraw her forces from Hungary. The move follows fears of a plot to restore ex emperor Charles to the Hungarian throne. The conference expects to adjourn around December 1.

The City Council approved a red light on City Hall bell tower to signal Canadian Collieries workers that mines are idle for the day. The light will be installed soon and lit only when work is not in progress at the mines.

Council plans to press for action, warning of a “bombardment” if no satisfactory response arrives. The city sits without proper authority to enforce the law while developments unfold.

Paris dispatch reports the French aviator Lieur Poulet, who began from Lisy les Moulineaux on Tuesday for Melbourne, Australia, arriving in Rome yesterday after a hazardous flight and successfully crossing the Alps.
The International Trades and Labor Council unanimously endorsed the Vancouver Repatriation and Community Service League. Col Mulloy spoke for the league, noting a drop in Orientals employed in Vancouver lumber mills over the past three months.
