Federal member in car accident on Island Highway
While returning from Courtenay on the Island Highway, M P A W Neill collided with a car driven by Jerry Kantara at Cumberland Royston Road. No serious injuries occurred though Mr Neill and his wife were shaken up. The new car was heavily damaged and being repaired by Royston Motor Company.

Vancouver Island to host new iron and steel mill
Mr. E. A. Haggen of Mining and Engineer Record, cited by the Vancouver Daily Province, says British Columbia is likely to establish an iron and steel mill soon with a daily capacity of 1000 tons. City Fathers Discuss Smallpox Cases and Open Nanaimo Hospital
At Monday's council meeting the health board chair reported only two smallpox cases in town. The council read letters from the National Machine Company about city scales and from Nanaimo inviting Cumberland to the hospital opening. The fire warden noted one fire, a vacant shack on Dunsmuir Ave burned, believed set by youths. The works chair said catch basins were cleaned and repaired.

Pioneer John Giddings Dies in Comox At 82
John Giddings of Comox died at St. Joseph’s Hospital after pneumonia. Born in Ireland and raised in New Brunswick, he moved to the western states, then British Columbia. He ran the Grant and Mounce sawmill camp before settling in Comox, leaving a widow and an adopted daughter. He was regarded as a quiet, helpful neighbor and will be deeply mourned by many friends.
