Four weeks after a holiday the Cumberland miners see no union support and fear starvation for families. Residents demand a mass meeting of ex employees to ignore the Cumberland union and push back against what they call socialist tactics and coercive pressure from union officials.
Advice urges resigned workers to return immediately and work harder while turmoil lasts. Cumberland leaders allegedly promote joining the United Mine Workers as in Nanaimo, but claims Chinese and Japanese in Cumberland have not joined the union.
The Vancouver Island Electric Railways Co Ltd applies for a license to take 3000 cubic feet per second from Campbell River for railway and power use. Water would be diverted upstream from Istfall and directed to land about 61 1/2 miles up river for unsurveyed land activity.
