Fatal accidental shooting on Denman Island claims life

A hunter on Denman Island near Nanaimo died when a rifle discharged while Alexander Chapman prepared his rifle. The bullet entered under the left ear of Samuel Hudson, aged 38, the eldest son of Samuel Hudson of Nanaimo. An inquest found no blame on Chapman. The funeral was held October 4 with Fraternal Order of Eagles pallbearers.

The Canadian Collieries (Dunsmuir) Ltd Medical Board met in Cumberland Hall with Chairman Joseph Horbury. Minutes were read and a year end financial statement distributed. The board voted to stop supplying medicines to outsiders after November and increased funeral benefits from 30 to 100. A new board was named with members from various shafts and areas.
