Courtenay led early but the Pilseners surged to victory 4 to 3 in a nine inning bill game. Pilseners' Harrison three bags and Raines key hits fueled a late rally as Courtenay’s defense misplayed balls and fumbled errors.
The final league game at Courtenay sees Pilzeners defeat Courtenay five to one. Key plays include Gatt and Harrison driving in two runs and a Somers catch robbing a three bagger, while Courtenay suffers multiple fanned outs and errors. The marriage of Miss Little Ingham formerly of this city to Mr. A. Brooksbank of Prince Rupert occurred Saturday at the residence of Mr. Richard Weaver in Victoria. The newlyweds left that evening for the north to reside there. Mr. Churchill, father of Mrs. Thos. Rickeon, visited town this week renewing acquaintances.
The death occurred in Vancouver hospital on Monday in January of John Walker aged 14 years and 5 months after a year long illness. Son of Mr. and Mrs. A Walker of this city, his funeral drew a large Cumberland crowd with services at residence church and cemetery led by Rev B C Freeman Grace Methodist. pallbearers listed and floral tributes from numerous families and organizations.
Two fine panthers were shot by Mr E Bourne at Point Holmes Saturday and Sunday. Samuel Wyatt disputes Standen’s claim to the title, arguing his own past champion status and undefeated record justify honors, while Standen’s skill and readiness are noted. The School Board met in the Council Chambers with trustees T Brunner man chairman J Stewart T Carey present. Minutes of the last meeting read and adopted. Communications from Educational Department and Britain & Foreign Sailor Society discussed. Plan to award two shields for High and Public School and a medal for senior pupils in core subjects was approved. Meeting adjourned after routine bills and offers.
The Catholic Bazaar in Cumberland Hall Tuesday afternoon Oct 18 1910 plans a dance with music by Morgan and Roy. Gentleman tickets cost one dollar and each lady must supply a box with a gentleman’s tie and refreshments for two. Boxes paid at midnight. purchaser to wear tie and apron with the lady’s. Tea and coffee to be served at the dance. W Willard traveled to Vancouver Friday morning for a High Court of the Independent Order of Forresters meeting Monday in that city.
William Sloan former M P for the district has spent the past week greeting supporters on the Islands at Comox Atlin. His presence fuels talk he may seek a Dominion seat again or aid a Liberal convention. Bible classes plan social evenings, and a farewell party for Mrs Humphrey highlighted a recent week’s social life.
