Better Lights for Cumberland City Tonight
The Cumberland Electric Lighting Company and the City Council have completed a city lighting upgrade. Three foot side street mast arms were extended to nine feet to illuminate streets further toward the center. Crews will finish installation this week and switch on the new lights this evening, boosting Cumberland’s urban illumination to continental standards.

76 000 Bricks Laid In Seven Hours At Canals Work
Under J R Lockard supervision a crew laid 76000 bricks in seven hours to repair the canal bottom supplying Cumberland mines and local hydro plants. Water was shut off during the work then turned back on at Cumberland allowing lights and mine machinery to resume that evening.
