Victoria Day Sports Programme at Recreation Grounds

Empire Day events on Monday May 24 feature football baseball foot races jumping pole vault tug of war and more open to all ages and nationalities. A free train service by Canadian Collieries will aid visitors with a schedule from Union Bay to Cumberland and back.

Union Bay couple thanks doctors and nurses for son's recovery

Mr and Mrs David Renwick of Union Bay thank Dr Geo K MacNaughton and the hospital nurses for their kindness during their son Davids illness noting such care aided his speedy recovery. H Woods of the Royal Bank and HM Davis of the Canadian Bank of Commerce go on a two weeks vacation.

City Council Meets Sets Fines and Budgets

The city council met Monday evening with Constable Ward reporting receipts from dog tax and fines totaling 45.50 and several accounts referred to the finance committee including Electric Light Co. and Water Works Co. An amendment to the Pound Bylaw was read a first and second time making harboring a cog illegal without a license. A bylaw to govern motor cycle speed was to be introduced. Drains reported blocked were ordered cleared.

Joseph Hunter, chief engineer of the Canadian Collieries Duns muir Ltd., made an official visit to the local mines during the week.

Bevan to Celebrate July 1 with Amateur Sports

Bevan residents gathered under the Bevan Athletic Association to plan Dominion Day events on July 1. Officers elected include Pres. T. A Spruston and judges F. Jaynes H. Thornely Ed. Jones with sub committees named to organize the day. Refreshment sites and details are available from Secretary Geo Darby.

Successful Sale of Work Supports Cumberland Hall Fund

The Cumberland hall sale of work on May 18 raised over 200 for the vicarage fund with J. Thomson supplying ice cream. A concert at Iloilo Theatre that evening featured the Symphony Orchestra under J. H. McMillan with an encored violin solo Meditation. Gleemen led by G. Odgers presented classical and humorous glees to strong applause.
