24th Celebration Athletes Promise Fast Trials

The 24th Celebration promises record interest in athletic events with top sprinters from local clubs. Luther Chambers and McFarlane face Clark, while Scott from Courtenay is a dark horse. The quarter mile features Grant, Clark, Bothley, Sommerville, and Cunningham. The mile includes Bannerman, Grant, Sommerville, Reese, and Sweeney, who holds BC record 4 42. Marathon eyes Cunningham and McLaren with Nanaimo athletes, and Cartwright is less known. Football reverts to 11 a side after disappointment with five a side. lacrosse introduces new players. Cumberland baseball seeks momentum after a 4 0 win. Numb defeats Shamrocks 4-0 last Saturday.

Injured man in hay load fall reported in Nanaimo

Telegram from Nanaimo B C dated May 19 1911 states Joseph Shaw was painfully injured after falling from a load of hay and landing on a stump. He was taken to the local hospital where he is said to be making favorable progress.

Special Council Meeting Addresses Tax Refunds and Roof Repair

The Cantata presented some time ago in aid of the Presbyterian church was repeated on Tuesday evening last. The hall was well filled showing that the pretty little operetta was appreciated on its previous production.
