Local residents condemn ongoing damage at Cumberland sport grounds behind the schools. The Colliery Company plans immediate prosecutions for fence damage doors removal and vandalism at the Recreation Grounds and Band Hall. If abused the grounds may close to all but training users.
The Cumberland Tennis Club announces its inaugural club tournament for ladies’ and men’s singles. Arrangements are complete and the first round draw is ready. Matches must be played by June 30.
Dora Hutchinson youngest daughter of F Hutchinson Cumberland and Robert Robertson eldest son of R Robertson Cumberland united in marriage by Rev W Leversedge at 7 pm last Saturday. Laura Robertson sister of groom served as bridesmaid Dan Stewart was groomsman. After a wedding supper the couple left by motor for Nanaimo and Vancouver for a honeymoon in Seattle. They will reside in Cumberland.
A full length entertainment feature screens Monday and Tuesday at the Iloilo Theatre. The comedy stars Johnny Hines and includes an exciting horse race sequence. Critics call it good healthy clean entertainment and a standout in its class.
Provincial election results show Liberals 19, Conservatives 15, Independents 3, Provincials 3 with six seats undecided. Vancouver City totals list Woodward 11058 Liberal Meenzie 9300 Liberal Creery 9177 Provincial D. McRae 8547. Still unreported areas include Bowser and Port Alice among others.
New Westminster stunned Ladysmith 1 to 0 in Vancouver last Saturday to produce the biggest upset of the Connaught Cup series. Whitmore scored from McLeod’s pass in the first half, and the score stood as the game ended. Cumberland and Nanaimo now view Westminster as a tough contender. Lt. Col. C. W. Villiers, J. B. Hamilton, and Moa G. Drader are noted in unrelated administrative notices.
June High School reports list students promoted from Grade X to XI, IX to X, and from Grade X to Normal Entrance or Junior Matriculation by merit. It notes promotions, conditions in one, two, or three subjects and names the principal.

Cumberland United travels to Nanaimo to face New Westminster United in the Conaught Cup semifinal at Central Sports Ground, 4 p.m., ref Joe Craig. Nanaimo City meets Vancouver Iluks in the other semifinal at Don Jones Park, Vancouver. Final set for Vancouver June 28 or July 1 if needed. Island fans expect Cumberland and Nanaimo as finalists.
An Important meeting of the Employees' Annual Picnic Committee will be held in the Lecture Hall of the Athletic Club on Sunday morning June 22 at 10 30 sharp. Full attendance is earnestly desired as business of the utmost importance will be discussed.
Nanaimo oldsters defeated Cumberland 1 to 0 in a match watched by a fair crowd. Jimmy Watson scored the lone goal after weaving past two defenders as Nanaimo dominated the first half and held Cumberland's late spark at bay. The Cumberland squad earned praise for effort but failed to match Nanaimo's training and pace. Also noted: Jack Bennie and brothers fished Comox Lake catching two large trout, six and six and a half pounds, amid taunting from Cumberland fishermen.
From Nanticoke Pennsylvania Mr and Mrs G W Griffiths and daughter Martha traveled eighteen days by car. They crossed New York Ohio Indiana Illinois Nebraska Colorado Wyoming Idaho Oregon and Washington visiting Mrs D Hunden in Cumberland. They praised road conditions and Boise City tourist camp facilities priced at fifty cents nightly. Vancouver Island impressed them for scenery and timber.
The Mercantile Store Company has bought a new one ton truck with overdrive to handle heavy goods transport and improve service to customers. Mr T Jackson, mine inspector, departed Cumberland for Nanaimo on Wednesday morning.
