Frank Kraly a well known Nanaimo youth died in Nanaimo Hospital following injuries from a June 10 1929 accident at the Robert Dollar camp in Deep Bay while working as a choker setter He was 23 born in Germany but lived most of his life in Nanaimo He is survived by four brothers Vincent Adolph Anthony and Joseph and three sisters Mrs W Winkleman and Misses Annie Effie all of Nanaimo

Committed for trial in cheque theft case
William Kirkwood an employee of the Canadian Robert Dollar Co at Deep Bay faced charges of stealing several cheques. Two cheques were cashed in Nanaimo for 100 dollars. The theft was discovered when cheques were returned to the Royal Bank at Union Bay. He was arrested in Vancouver and Magistrate Bates committed him for trial.

Ferry Tenders Opened Denman Island Buckley Bay
Tenders for the Denman Island Buckley Bay ferry were opened with Sandy Swan the lowest bidder at 4500 dollars. Other bids came from A Hayden Luck 5305 dollars William Hind 7200 dollars Pacific Navigation Co 9700 dollars and J W Cates 13800 dollars. Progress Noted In 38th Annual Report Of Medical Fund
The 38th annual Medical and Accident Fund report shows receipts and expenditures for year ending June 30 1980 with a closing balance of 10936.96. Over 38 years the fund has collected 559768.95 and expended 648821.099 leaving a strong on hand balance despite last year's extra costs. Medical officers Dr G K Mac Naughton and Dr E R Hicks delivered satisfactory service. Cemetery work cost 2409.18, six acres were added joining the Medical Fund cemetery and Roman Catholic cemetery into one tract, now cleared and fenced. Gates near the Roman Catholic end will be installed soon. The hospital remains in excellent condition and a rate increase was agreed after review.

Big Storm Of Saturday Causes Little Damage In Cumberland
A weekend storm lit the Cumberland sky last Saturday around 10 pm but caused limited damage. Trees were struck and fires started in several areas, a house side at Union Bay was hit, and a transformer on the Minto line was damaged. Rain helped quell many fires as Cumberland residents spent the weekend at lake camps.
