December school report lists multiple divisions with enrollment, attendance percentages, late counts, and perfect attendances. Honors go to students across divisions, with progress noted and attendance shields won by Mrs. Bickle’s class as the page continues.
Children from Cumberland United Church Sunday School enjoyed a social evening with recitations and choruses after supper. Parents attended the short programme and each child received candy and fruit bags. Prizes honored church and Sunday School attendance. Audrey DeCoeur won a bound Bible.
Mr and Mrs H Bryan entertained at a dinner party on Monday evening. Eleven guests attended with a decorated table a Christmas tree holly candles and white chrysanthemums. Guests included Mr and Mrs B D Pickard Mr and Mrs T H Mumford Mr and Mrs J Frame and others. New Year party followed in the evening.
The Canary Club Orchestra will perform at Ilo Ilo Dance Hall Cumberland for a Saturday evening dance. Dancing starts promptly at 9 o clock with all the latest dance hits.
Federal member Mr A W Neill spoke at the Waverly Hotel on January 5 detailing Ottawa measures including the Old Age Pensions Act and fisher men interests in Comox district. He noted possible changes to the age limit and emphasized support for elderly recipients.

The design mirrors Alpine and Mediterranean shores with a top level garage and three sided windows opening to ocean views. Completion aims to spark an exclusive celebrity seaside colony near Rancho Santa Fe.
The Cumberland inquest finds Chan Fong Mun died from a knife wound inflicted by Chen Mee in Chinatown. Evidence describes a fatal abdominal injury and post mortem findings, with witnesses detailing the scene and struggle.
Miss Helen Lyon Johnston and Arthur Williams married Thursday evening at the Johnston residence. Rev J Hewitt officiated with music by Mrs W Hudson. The couple planned a honeymoon to Vancouver after a reception for immediate relatives.
A telegram to Mr T Graham of Thos the Canadian Collieries Limited Cumberland B C congratulates the company and its employees on a low fatal accident ratio in 1927 and pledges continued cooperation for safety in the mining industry with best wishes for a happy prosperous new year.
Chan Mee appeared before Stipendiary Magistrate John Conway for a preliminary hearing and was remanded until January 18. Mrs Horwood underwent an operation at Cumberland General Hospital this morning but is progressing favorably. Dr McPherson of Victoria visited Cumberland on Thursday and stayed with Dr and Mrs MacNaughton.
The Rev. B. R. McLean of Vancouver, secretary of the Religious Education Council of British Columbia, will preach at Cumberland United Church Sunday morning January 8 at 11 o'clock and address the Sunday School at 1 30 p.m. Everyone is invited.
Dr and Mrs G K MacNaughton hosted a New Year Eve dinner for fourteen to mark twenty years of marriage. The dining room featured white chrysanthemums holly and a three tier wedding cake. Guests included Dr and Mrs H R Hicks Mr and Mrs C H Tarbell and others. Each guest received a slice of the anniversary cake and prizes were won in bridge by Mrs Hicks and Mr Shaw.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles hosted a whist drive at the Eagles' Home with eight tables. Prizes went to Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Lockhart for ladies and to Mr. F Bradley and Norman Frelone for gentlemen. Music by Jimmy Walker and Paramount Orchestra pleased attendees. baritone R Goodall sang two songs. a turkey raffle crowned Mrs. Marielli as winner. The auxiliary plans more drives soon.
A miscellaneous shower was given at Miss Ella Johnston’s home on Tuesday evening in her honor. Friends attending included Margaret Adamson, Mrs Carney, Isa belle Herd, Mrs Williams, Bella Baird, and many others. Gifts were presented by Margaret Adamson with helpers Bessie Carney and Helen Shearer. Refreshments were served by Mrs Johnston and Jean Smith.
E W Bigelow spoke to Cumberland Eagles Aerie 1953 after a regular meeting last Tuesday evening. The Sedro Woolley Washington resident and former F C E president described the organization’s aims and work, praising the new Women’s Auxiliary and noting cross border interest in the Fraternity.
Mrs. W. Hudson hosted a Wednesday evening shower at War Veterans' Hall for Miss Ella Johnston prior to her marriage to Arthur Williams on Thursday. Whist and games filled the evening with prizes awarded to Mrs. Boag, Mrs. Freeburn, and Mrs. E. Potter. A decorated basket containing a fifty four piece dinner set and knives was carried in, and Miss Johnston received a rattan arm chair. Refreshments followed as a large group of attendees enjoyed the event and socialized in anticipation of the upcoming wedding.
The Cumberland High School boys team held a dance at the Anglican Hall on Friday evening. Attendance was good and guests enjoyed themselves. Music was provided by Mrs Hudson and Messrs J H Robertson Les Dando and L Thomson.
