City Council Reviews School Trustees Estimates for 24 397 50

Mayor MacDonald presided as aldermen discussed the board of school trustees proposed ordinary expenditures of 24 397.50 and heating options. They approved the figures except heating, noting possible government assistance, while other items including water rates and solicitor fees were reviewed.

Cumberland City Band to Play Bevan Concert Sunday

The Cumberland City Band will give a popular concert at Bevan on Sunday evening. Bevan Athletic Club committee provides the hall. Vocal artists join the programme after band numbers. A special train will run from Cumberland station at 6 p.m. to return by 8 10, with the concert starting at 6 45.

Whist Drive and Dance Sets For Next Week

The Women's Auxiliary of the G W W A will host another fort nightly whist drive and dance next Friday night. A record attendance was reported last week with $43 cleared after expenses. Winners included Mrs Parkinson first lady, Mrs Marpole consolation, Mr P Monte first gent, and Mr Pilling consolation.

Cumberland Volunteer Fire Brigade elects new officers

At a Monday meeting the Cumberland Brigade elected C J Parnham as Fire Chief and J Cameron as Deputy Chief. Longtime leader Mr Banks remains Honorary Chief. The brigade, with 26 members, plans a March 17 masquerade ball.

Visit of Grand First Principal to Cyrus Chapter noted

The news reports that D. H. Morrison Grand First Principal of the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of B C will visit Cyrus Chapter No 10 on March 14. A Victoria reunion of Island Chapters is planned later in the week following last year’s Cumberland gathering. Rally and smoker for ex service men and friends

A rally and smoker for ex service men and friends will be held by the G W V A on Saturday in Memorial Hall at 7 30 pm. Comrade Harry Jackson and the Entertainment Committee arranged a fine programme of music and other features. Refreshments and smokes will be provided and admission is by programme at AU cents each.

Court of Revision adjusts city assessment roll

City Court of Revision met in council chambers with Mayor MacDonald presiding. The roll was examined and changes made. improvements on properties of Mr Dallas and Mr Kilpatrick were struck off after fire destroyed buildings. Maxwell on Dunsmuir Avenue saw a 200 pound reduction. Mr Bickle’s assessment was cut from 8000 to 7000.
