Harrison to Inspect Comox Roads by Auto and Launch

M L A P P Harrison will tour the Comox riding with the Minister of Public Works by car and boat to assess highway conditions. The trip is planned for next April or May, lasting about three weeks. In early summer he will join the Minister of Finance and Education on a visit to Cumberland and Courtenay and other locations.

Annual meeting of Cumberland Literary and Athletic Association

The Cumberland Literary and Athletic Association held its annual meeting at Ilo-Ilo Theatre with about 260 attendees. President A J Taylor reported 1924 transactions including the financial statement, which the meeting accepted. Officers elected: President A J Taylor, Vice President J Robb, Secretary J W Tremlett, Treasurer E D Pickard. Board members include George O Brien, William Walker, Robert Strachan, Charles O'Brien, H L Bates, S Hunt, L Scavardo and H Walker.

Missing Cumberland man sought after December 24

Mr Thomas Michell of Dunsmuir Avenue Cumberland vanished after leaving home on Wednesday December 24 about 11 am. He is fifty nine, 5 feet 6 inches, blue pants and hunting jacket, dark tweed hat and white rubber boots. Call the family if seen.

Busy Bee At Home At Holy Trinity Club Event

The Busy Bee Club of Holy Trinity Church hosted many friends in the Anglican Hall last Friday evening. From 7 to 9 30 PM attendees enjoyed songs recitations piano solos and games. Dainty refreshments were served and the young folks declared the evening a huge success.

The Cumberland Fire Dept was summoned twice in recent days due to cold weather. A chimney fire at Lang's Drug Store and a residence blaze at Mr Geo McLean prompted rapid responses with no serious damage. One alarm delay stemmed from a mistaken location, underscoring the need for precise addresses.

LadySmith Team to Face Local Quintette Tonight

Basketball fans may see a Ladysmith team in action against a local quintet. A ladies game also on the card promises speed and pep. Band Hall doors open 7 to 7 30 p.m. Seats are limited as the largest crowd of the season is expected.

Old Fashioned New Year Dance Promises Fun in Cumberland

The Cumberland Rangers present a New Year’s night dance at 9:00 in the Ilo-Ilo Dance Hall. The event features dances from ancient times to 1924, including waltz, French minuet, Jersey, Lancers, and One step. Everyone is invited to join, learn, or teach others.

Mayor Praises Council For Year Of City Improvements

Mayor Parnham and most council members attended a brief year end meeting. Accounts totaling 813.88 were sent to the Finance Committee for approval. The City Clerk was named returning officer for the coming election with polling at City Hall. He was asked to send condolences to Mrs. Burghner. The mayor thanked the council for a successful year and extended seasonal greetings.

High School Christmas Dance Ends Term In Church Hall

Pupils of Cumberland High School held a jolly dance in the Anglican Church Hall last Monday evening to mark the Christmas holidays ending. Guests included former Cumberland High students who shared memories of school days. Special thanks were given to Miss Jessie Maxwell Mrs C Dando Jr Miss G Dando Mr C Newman Mr T McLellan and Mr F Potter for supporting the music. Dainty refreshments were served during a lull in dancing and at 1 am all departed.
