Hero Corpsman Corporal Alfred Jones Dies in Courtenay
District wide regret follows the death on Tuesday night of Corporal Alfred Jones late of the 102nd Atlin Battalion. A veteran of the Ca nadian Expeditionary Force in France 1916 1917 he rose from private to corporal on the field of battle. He served as a comrade and aided many, returning to Courtenay where he worked for the Canadian Bank of Commerce and the Royal Bank of Canada before joining the CPR at the depot. Born in Liverpool England he leaves his mother sister and other kin. Funeral with semi military honors will be held Sunday at 2 30 p m from Sutton's Undertaking Parlors to St Johns Anglican Church then interment at Sandwick Cemetery.

George H Gage 22 Dies in French Front Sacrifice
Private George H. Gage eldest son of the late Walter and Mrs Gage Nob Hill Comox has fallen in France after serving with the 102nd Battalion for about two years. He went overseas two years ago and participated in many battles. This is the second bereavement in the family within a year as his father died last summer. The community extends sympathy to Mrs Gage a highly respected resident.
