A patent has been issued to Mr J B Alfree of this city assignor to Shriver and Swartzwelder for improved rolls for grinding in mills.
Collector Brockett states he must collect all taxes and water rents by January 1 and will proceed by law on that date to collect all unpaid bills due.
Joseph Furlong commissioned second lieutenant of company B second battalion M N G and W O Hoffman resignation as captain of company A accepted by Adjt General Howard with an early election planned. Tyler Post No 5 G A R announces Decoration Day committees and arrangements. A nineteen year old man named Wash Williams dies after being crushed under a moving ballast train. he was the sole supporter of his elderly parents.
The Baltimore Sun answers Constant Reader that the old law bans fishing by children or servants on Sundays with a $5 fine. It states that private individuals are not prohibited from fishing on the Sabbath.
Prof Daisy and Joseph Crowley of Gloucester New Jersey arrived to play with Cumberland this season. Daisy to center while Crowley pitches and plays short or third.
A Piedmont dispatch reports several men returning to work in Kirk Garden as Davis Bros No. 1 and 2 run out of tools. Col Davis will select workers, avoiding those linked to earlier intimidation. Lonaconing telephones say regional mines resume tomorrow with Koontz at fifty workers, New Det mold thirty five, American yet to tool up.
President Baughman led talks in Bal more with Stephen Gambrill treasurer and general superintendent John P Ayers assistant Ed Mulvaney division No 2 superintendent and Sam Young chief carpenter. They reviewed bids and chose the company plan as better and more economical to rebuild dam No 6. Work should start at once and take about four months while navigation resumes in ten days to two weeks using temporary arrangements. No tenders were received for the $100 000 repair bonds.

Peter Mulholland, once a successful canal and road contractor, died at the Almshouse after years of poverty. The 85 year old, noted for thrift and hard work, tended a small vegetable patch and was well liked by the residents.

James N. Clary, a well known local painter, died at 4 30 this morning at his father in law James A Ferguson home corner Baltimore and Front streets after about two years illness with consumption. He was 45? He notes 46th year. Born and raised in the city. Funeral from English Lutheran church tomorrow at 3 PM.
New tax collectors in Howard County filed their bond while Dr. Thomas B. Owings was named health officer. Howard officials also appointed constables and ordered interest on tax arrears after January 1, 1887. A house burned in Linkwood Dorchester County killed a man’s two children.
William Armstrong of Wasuixator accused Treasury officials of offering the post of photographer for $1000. He spoke with Assistant Secretary Switch and with Higgins denying the charges as false. Armstrong did not file written charges before close. A prior encounter with Higgins is noted.
The third day of the Evangelistic convention began at 10 30 o clock this morning with devotional exercises at the Centre Street M B Church.
A Paris dispatch to the Evening Post details Miss Folsom's wedding wardrobe and travel attire. The ivory satin dress features orange blossoms and a four yard train, with a seven yard veil and elaborate corsage. A gray traveling suit and claret velvet accents complete the announced Buffalo ceremony on June 18.
Thomas B. King sues Reon Barnes for 700000 in stock of the New York Transit and Terminal company alleging illegal issuance to Barnes. The suit details Barnes as head of the company to acquire Staten Island lands and waterfronts with help from Baltimore and Ohio figures and Coudert Brothers clerks acting as dummies. The nine original founders moved to recover bonds after learning they were being frozen out.
Annapolis May 19 ex governor Whyte and Col Marshall will move for a rehearing in Pearce case. Court split four to four on affirmance or reversal with ruling affirmed and case remanded. Bail for Graham Pearre declared forfeited with arrest warrant issued. Pearce's counsel disclaims knowledge of whereabouts.
