Oat Swindlers Prey On Caroline County Farmers

A smooth talking stranger sold oats named White Star to several farmers in lower Caroline County. He offered ten bushels at $15 per bushel with a promise to double the purchase next year, but escaped with more than a thousand dollars. Notes given to the Michigan man are now in brokers' hands.

Fire Destroyed Meyersdale Warehouse and B and O Depot

A large warehouse owned by G W Gassman in Meyersdale burned last night around 8 30. The blaze quickly spread to the Baltimore and Ohio depot, destroying both buildings and their contents including agricultural implements and hardware. W H Allan saved the ticket case but some tickets were lost. telegraph equipment was consumed and communication halted. Origin of the fire is unknown.
