New Express Train Delivers Morning Goods to City Merchants

Baltimore and Ohio Railroad adds a solid express train to speed deliveries for increasing express traffic. The New York goods arrive by 6 30 next morning affords merchants earlier access. Through service to Chicago and St Louis begins tomorrow with 8 p m departure from New York and 6 50 a m Cumberland arrival.

Resignation of Rev James Miller from First Baptist Church

Last evening Rev James Miller pastor of the First Baptist church on Bedford street tendered his resignation to take effect after Sunday next. He has served about a year and has supplied Eckbart church on Sundays. He has accepted a call to Frostburg and will continue to supply Eckbart. Rev L C Brickhouse of Virginia is expected to visit for a Sunday morning service with a view to the pastorate.

Coal Shipments From Cumberland Mines in Week and Year

Weekly Cumberland coal shipments totaled 45 077 tons with year to date 591 686 tons a drop of 283 996 compared with 1885. Shipped to Baltimore and Ohio 42488 weekly and 1 875 191 yearly a decrease of 38 027. Pennsylvania railroad 2018 weekly 281 971 yearly down 162 334. Chesapeake and Ohio canal 571 weekly 254 525 yearly down 88 634.

Funeral of Deputy Marshal Thomas W. Gunning Tomorrow

The funeral for the late United States Deputy Marshal Thomas W. Gunning will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o clock from his residence at the corner of Decatur and Baltimore street extended. Services take place at St Patrick s church with interment in St Patrick s cemetery. Friends of the family are invited.

Presbytery dissolves Kings pastoral relation at Lonaconing church

The December session of the Presbytery of Baltimore met at Central Presbyterian Baltimore. Rev D H King of Lonaconing requested dissolution of pastoral relations to accept a call in New Jersey Presbytery, with leave granted for temporary pulpit supply. Two new congregations, Faith Chapel and Fulton Avenue Church, were admitted. The Broadway church won permission to relocate to East Baltimore Street.

Loss of Life Small on J. M. White Fire

The steam boat J. M. White burning at Blue Stone Point Coupe near Baton Rouge with passengers aboard. Captain Mase reports only one known fatality, the boat and cargo a total loss. Built 1878, cost 225000, owned by Captain Tobin, cargo valued 90000, insurance on boat 2000 with cargo fully insured.

Barrimore Market Report Shows Mixed Grain and Commodity Movements

Barrimore, Mo report notes higher steady demand in southern red and amber wheats with various futures and spot prices listed. Corn and oats show mixed movements with steady to higher western futures, provisions and eggs up, copper refined sugar and whiskey steady, receipts and shipments for flour wheat corn oats rye reported.
