The pay car of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad was in town today and employees were paid off. Frostburg society plans a large turnout this evening for amateur theatricals and Mother Goose quatrilles by local youth. Several friends from Cumberland joined in today's events.
William Slattery, a compositor on thin paper, broke his ankle yesterday while playing baseball near Ridgeley’s Ice House in West Virginia. Dr. Carr attended and set the injured limb.
Miss Bertha Pitzer hosted a moonlight party at her father's Beall Street residence last evening. About twenty five friends attended and enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
Monroe Keller of Thomas West Virginia drowned crossing the North Fork of the Blackwater due to flood raised waters. His body was recovered in a mutilated condition after the incident occurring the night before last.
Society of the Sons of Veterans will convene tomorrow evening at Good Templar's Hall to organize the group. Prominent young men will deliver several addresses to kick off the effort.
Grand Commander John Langford of the American Legion of Honor will visit Local Council No 74 tomorrow evening for a full council meeting. A banquet will follow the gathering to welcome the visitors.
The eight year old Bertie Ware is much easier today after severe burns suffered yesterday. Lawrence Shaffer, hurt in a railroad accident, is improving and hopes for recovery are now entertained.
The Bedford Street M. P. church Sunday school holds its annual picnic tomorrow at King's Grove. Trains depart Hays street station at 8:00 AM and 1:30 PM. If weather is unsuitable the event will be postponed.

Hagerstown coal dealers adopt a uniform cash price scale, allowing small buyers to pay the same rate as the wealthy, with prices slightly lower than last year.
A leak from Washington county claims Louis E. McComas plans to oust Colonel Mallikin as Republican State Central chairman at a Dusharne Post Hall meeting to seize control of the committee and direct its machinery to his own interests. Local agriculture shows heavy grass crops and promising corn and wheat yields amid low wheat prices. last week's picnic was a well ordered, lively success with ice cream lemonade and music.
This morning at about 11 the six year old daughter of Jacob Bell fell from a yard fence into Will's Creek. Her brothers ages seven and eight cried out, jumped in, and pulled her up just as she was sinking. The fall likely caused internal injuries and a deep facial gash. Dr Craigen provided surgical aid.
A Baltimore dispatch reports no new developments in the Baltimore and Ohio freight shutdown. Fred Shriver of the New York and Baltimore Transportation Company is in Philadelphia, while Baltimore and Ohio General Freight Agent Harriott remains in New York. Camden station notes any delay as temporary, with a possible outside New York line after Philadelphia extension. Locust Point handles east bound freight under L. F. Beeler.
Jno Hambird and Co. holding the contract begun grading near Johnson Street where the B and O formerly connected with the basin. They are rapidly cutting down the elevation for the road along the side. Work halted temporarily due to a creek rise affecting the island abutment foundation.
In a tight finish at an Aug 18 race, Cassatt’s The Bard narrowly defeats Dwyer’s Dew Drop by a neck on a 2.39 1-4 time. Four horses started. Dew Drop carried 113 pounds, The Bard 118. The crowd surged with excitement as The Bard surged ahead near the last quarter.
The Dover Delaware Democratic State convention nominates Benjamin T. Biggs for governor and John B. Pennington for Congress. Pennsylvania convention at Hanermoons and Ohio convention at Tonevo also report nominations and contest prospects. Westward races show expected shifts with leaders named at Saratoga meetings and July-August planning notes.
The Daily News argues that Irish delegates must silence dynamite advocates or face world contempt. It suggests hanging Rossa would rid the world of a cowardly knave and notes the Chicago convention centers on resisting violence and the Tory policy.
In Baltimore on August 18 receipts of peaches were large along Light Street wharf. Box prices ranged from 50 to 55 cents for pie peaches up to 1.50 dollars for fancy yellows with several gradations in between including fair to red 60 to 70 cents and choice red 80 cents to 1 dollar.
