UT Medical School at SA Gets Pilot System Grant
The University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio received a 378000 dollar research and demonstration grant from the Office of Economic Opportunity to build a pilot health care system for Bexar County’s medically indigent and train para medical personnel. The program aims to serve 5000 to 6000 people and uses the Robert B Green Hospital outpatient clinic. It envisions a health care team including a family physician obstetrician gynecologist a health care counsellor a health care assistant a public health nurse and a social worker. Former military corpsmen will fill counselling roles and a health care nurse will visit homes as needed. The project aligns with the AMA guidance on care for the poor.
