Munson 98 of Yoakum a former lawman died in a Yoakum nursing home with services at Hope United Methodist Church and Pilot Grove Cemetery. Mrs Carl Pagel 80 of Yoakum died at Huth Memorial Hospital with service at Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Pilot Grove Cemetery. Mrs J R Benbow 69 of Yoakum died in Huth Memorial Hospital with services at Buffington Funeral Home and Alexander Cemetery. Mrs A B Stanberry 65 of Katy sister of Cuero resident survived by family. funeral and burial held in Katy.

Cuero Beautification Push His Charm Through Artful Restrooms
City Manager Jim Pratt and two part time workers lead Cuero beautification efforts. Cuero High School students Serena Jackson and Sally Moser paint park restrooms with playful scenes. The first mural shows Snoopy on his doghouse with Woodstock on his nose at Municipal Park. Other restrooms may receive new designs.

Grass fire near Cuero endangers three homes and barn
A stubborn grass fire on Cuero's northwest side burned a large area north of town and endangered three houses and a barn. Firefighters battled the blaze from about 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on land owned by Willie Hagan and others. cause suspected to be a cigarette from a car. The Nordheim High School band probation unrelated to the fire story.

Orientation program slated at Cuero schools
The first orientation session at John C. French Elementary School will be held Tuesday September 30 from 7 30 to 8 30 p m in the cafeteria. Principal Mrs Audrey Blackwell said all French teachers will attend to explain grade level details and answer parent questions about new state and federal features being implemented locally. Parents of John C French students are urged to attend and no children should be brought as care is not available.

Local riders sweep Rawhide Riders Fun Day events
Four Rawhide Riders earned top honors at the Sunday Fun Day. Chris Albrecht won the coverup throwing contest in the men's division and Bryce Dolan the boys division while Walter Wilke and Mike Zuber captured horseshoe pitching. Betty Nickels, Betty Wade, Lowe Simon, and Billy Wade also scored in various events as the club hosted a nine mile trail ride and barbecue. Albert Ley received a plaque for his work with the organization and a birthday salute.

City closes stretch of Courthouse Street for four months
Cuero’s Street Department closed a section of Courthouse Street from the city warehouse to Broadway near Municipal Park for about four months to allow East Broadway construction. Traffic detours use Broadway via the short street by the rest area. motorists are asked to proceed with caution.
