Notable contributors include Farmers State Bank, Buchel Bank, Cuero Federal S L, Weber Motor Co, Freund Funeral Home, Ark La Gas, Gulf Coast Wood Prod, Nielsen 7 Up Bottling, J C Penney Co, H E B Grocery, Cuero Nursing Home, Crescent Valley Creamery, and many individuals. Total to date reported as 6341 dollars.
The Cuero Record will discontinue afternoon delivery to Yorktown and Cuero route subscribers starting Monday November 1. Readers in Yorktown and nearby towns will receive the paper in the morning from Victoria via postal routing, with the change prompted by publisher Jack Howerton’s departure. An annual subscription offer is promised in November.
Jerry Gartman pleaded guilty in 24th District Court. Judge Joe Kelly sentenced him to 120 days in De Witt County Jail starting Oct 1 and fined 500 for credit card misuse. He received a five year sentence for removal of mortgaged property with parole possible in Huntsville. Ronald Rhoades, 31, pleaded guilty to second offense DWI and drew 30 days in jail plus a 400 fine. The Dolan case trial continued.
The Fischer Washateria in Cuero reopens after a two month remodel at 1418 N Esplanade. Owners Freddie Fischer invite the public to a Thursday through Saturday event with gift certificates as attendance prizes worth 100 dollars total. Drawing Saturday at 6 p.m. includes five ten dollar and ten five dollar certificates for washing or dry cleaning.
State Rep Tim Von Dohlen announced plans for the 42nd Legislative District Economic Development Clinic in Cuero at the Community Center on Thursday November 4 with registration at 8 30 am. Speakers from state and federal agencies will discuss rural programs and help delegates connect with agencies for future collaboration. Cuero Chamber of Commerce handles arrangements. Von Dohlen hopes for broad town delegation.
Nathan Post, owner of Nathan Post Lumber Co., was admitted to Citizens Memorial Hospital in Victoria after a heart attack. His son John Post said doctors are running tests and have not reported results yet.
Pilot Club of Cuero welcomed eight guests at a Tuesday meeting led by chairwoman Mrs. James Massey. The event celebrated Pilot International’s theme Participation the Golden Link of Progress with members and past presidents sharing memories and the group adding new member Mrs. Leroy Pierce to complete the golden link.
The Grand Chapter of Texas OES held its eighty ninth annual session in Austin October 17 to 21 at Municipal Auditorium. Arlington and San Antonio chapters honored, Cuero Chapter 618 represented by Leola Eaves and Otha Eaves and four Cuero members named to Grand Committees. Over 6000 members attended, the largest in the chapter’s history.
