Petition Drives Back Police Chief Demand At City Council
City Manager Wil Cockrell stood firm on dismissing Richard Hogue as police chief despite passionate appeals from Hogue supporters. Mayor Jack Edgar and council members backed the manager. About 1,500 signatures were reportedly collected on petitions urging Hogue to be rehired. The Rev. Charles Smith and Rev. John Carmona pleaded for reconsideration, noting voters will vote next election day. Cockrell cited policy differences and a 22 employee count in the department during Hogue’s tenure.
