Dallas Civic Opera Sets Lucia di Lammermoor as Third of Season
Dutch coloratura Christina Deutekom will star in Lucia di Lammermoor with Alfredo Kraus as Edgardo and Lorenzo Saccomani as Enrico. Nicola Zaccaria and Jeanette Hall Wood also cast. Nicola Rescigno conducts the 16th annual season. The company opened November 3 with Dido and Aeneas and Werther, then Lucia debuts December 8 marking Deutekom’s Dallas operatic debut.

R G Hill of Hill's Nursery Victoria presented Trees Shrubs and Lawns to Cuero Garden Club at the Woman's Building. He discussed live oak decline cures with fungus injections and lawn care tips including acorn removal and topsoil fertilization. He noted copper fungicide Kocide kills ball moss in six months and highlighted club plans for a spring show and Toys for Toys charity drive. The meeting featured Thanksgiving readings and hostesses. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Summers Jr. hosted a Gift Shop Tea at their home sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Money and gifts will aid McCloskey Hospital in Temple for veterans unable to buy Christmas gifts. The event featured a silver epergne centerpiece with red and white carnations and blue accents.
