The Cuero community notes State Representative J. T. Newman withdrew from the Democratic Run-Off Primary. After 24 years as mayor and 5 1/2 years in the Texas Legislature, Newman cites retirement plans, campaign costs, moral reasons, and expected low turnout as factors guiding his decision. Tim Von Dohlen is slated to succeed him in January 1971 for the 42nd District.
