Canyon Reservoir Releases Slowed Amid Drought Conditions
Canyon Reservoir releases are cut to 530 cubic feet per second due to drought in the Upper Guadalupe Basin. GBRA General Manager Robert H. Vahrenkamp says releases track inflow from the Guadalupe River under Texas Water Rights Commission permits, with further reductions possible if inflow falls. Spring flow below Canyon Reservoir dropped to 214 cfs as of March 25, 1971, and total Guadalupe River flow at Dunlap Dam stood at 264 cfs, expected to fall with warmer weather. The Board approved GRBA participation in the State of Texas Water Pollution Control Compact to aid financing for sewage treatment plants, potentially boosting federal aid share. The Board also awarded the Bottom Street Trunk Sewer contract to Charles B. Jones of Boyd, Texas.

Bentsen Explains Why He Voted Against SST
In a letter to The Record Senator Lloyd Bentsen states he voted against further SST funding. He argues the SST is economically unsound, costs more per seat mile, and would not justify the premium for travelers. He notes airline debts and inefficiency make billions in investment hard to justify. He dismisses competition concerns as unlikely to prove decisive.
