Democrats Should Seek Return Of Bosses
A UPI analysis argues for reviving party bosses to nominate a consensus presidential candidate and unite Democrats for state and local wins. It cites Chicago Mayor Daley and the late Thomas E. Dewey as historic power brokers and notes reforms since 1963 spurred wider delegate participation and reliance on organizational get-out-the-vote efforts. Muskie leads among endorsers, yet such backing may not translate into votes.
