Town Talk notes a new poultry processing plant will open within a month, employing about twenty five people. Edwin Parker, owner of Smiley Produce Company, will join Cuero business circles, with local optimism about 1958 despite a slow start.
President Marcos Perez Jimenez ordered four strong columns toward Maracay to crush a military revolt led by air force and army units at the base there. Rebels reportedly bombed the capital but Perez Jimenez said the strikes were disorganized with no major damage. The U S Embassy said all 30,000 Americans in the capital were safe as civilians faced air raid fears.
J L Dement owner says renovations delay the Dement automotive repair garage move to the north part of the K of P building until after February 1. He had planned to open today but will relocate once accommodations are finished. Brown's Automotive Supply will occupy the south side and lease space on the first floor.
A man entered Totah's on Rio Grande Boulevard in Victoria on Wednesday, displayed a revolver, and fled with between 40 and 50 dollars in cash. Cashier Shirley McGrew described the suspect as about six feet tall, roughly 200 pounds, wearing a blue coat and tan trousers.
Attorneys for Cletus BP Einster C O Hagen C L Carey and Henry Robinson plan to meet with the prosecution at DeWitt County courthouse to push hearings on land scandal cases. District Attorney Wiley Cheatham said the session will start at 9 00 a m.
Gebhardt Eagle Chili Powder was removed from Cuero shelves after a warning that one ounce and three ounce bottles might contain glass fragments. In Islamorada Florida on January 2 a smuggled note led to the capture of three teenage pirates who seized a 40 foot yacht and held a family of six as hostages while attempting to flee to Mexico. Johnny Cox 16 Tommy Edwards 15 and Mike Moore 17 all of San Antonio Texas were identified by sheriff John Spottswood as the youths in custody. The sheriff said charges may include kidnapping or grand larceny and the youths took the Siesta at Craig Key south of Islamorada where Richard Sias and his family had tied up for the night.

Martin Bell of Sritles Wednesday began temporary duties as manager of Cuero Municipal Park replacing Vo. Ruaeche whose resignation took effect January 1. Beakley, in charge of recreational facilities, will oversee the post until a permanent appointee is chosen. Bell will be aided by a three man staff under Beakley. Ups James Roper and Wille Scott face charges after firecrackers set off outside the deputy sheriff’s window drew police action in Syracuse.
Britain and France push Albania for the release of a British Skymaster freighter and its six crew after Albanian forces forced the DC-4 type plane down near Valona on the Adriatic. Albania cites airspace violation. no diplomatic reply from Tirana.
A high speed collision northeast of Warsaw killed two dozen people and injured many as a passenger train collided with a slower freight train. Officials said a faulty signal system is believed to have caused the crash. Local responders rushed to the scene as investigators arrived to determine exact fault and timeline.
