Trail Riders Head For Nixon Camp After Cold Start
About 350 Old Chisholm Trail Drivers Association riders left Cuero Sunday for Westhoff and Nixon in bright but still cold sunshine. An unofficial 325 riders rode in, with wagons and rigs following. The ride began late due to route changes, and a disturbance at the Westhoff Legion Hall marred the event for the first time in 10 years. The group paused for lunch near Lindenau and enjoyed fried chicken in Westhoff.

The Texas House passed a resolution by Tim Von Dohlen urging the governor to request extra time to bring intra state meat plants under state inspection before federal takeover. State officials fear USDA will inspect all 800 Texas plants under the Wholesome Meat Act and potentially shut smaller operations. The measure cites Texas Health Department progress and seeks to extend the deadline to preserve local control.
