Taxpayers Could Refuse Property Taxes After Court Ruling
Attorney General Crawford Martin warned that a federal court ruling striking down Texas school funding via property taxes could trigger a taxpayer revolt and default on over 2.25 billion in outstanding bonds. He urged clarifications while noting districts face possible credit crises and legislative remedies, as bond dealers warn of halting new issuances. Texas Board of Education plans a January meeting to discuss funding options.
