In December West High School presents a living Christmas tree with a two dozen carols performed mostly a cappella by about 800 students. The 15 foot steel frame tree weighs ten tons with 80 students on tiers, lit by 19,000 watts and decorated with evergreen boughs, with ROTC ushers and a student orchestra accompaniment.
