Mayberry Named Royals Player of the Year

Royals outfielder Johnny Mayberry, who hit .298 with 25 homers and 111 RBIs, was chosen as Kansas City’s player of the year by local writers and broadcasters. The award will be presented at the Kansas City Baseball Awards dinner on January 21. Larry Brown of the Washington Redskins and Brad Van Pelt of Michigan State were named the year’s outstanding pro and college football players by the Maxwell Club, with dinner honors on January 22.

Cuero Sports Committee Plans 1973 Events and Support

Cuero Chamber of Commerce Sports Committee held its monthly meeting to discuss playoff games at Gobbler Stadium, 1973 golf tournament details, and continued support for the Fat Stock Show. The group proposed donations, boosted buyer attendance, and portended increased park upkeep and volunteer staffing for Gobbler Relays and Baseball. The next meeting is Thursday January 12 at 6 p.m with members John Post Henry Sheppard Joe Garcia Ralph Egg and Dewey Henderson present.
