Amputation of a Kansas man in perilous well rescue
In Olathe Charles Deyo descended a fifty foot well to clean it. He grew dizzy and haltingly called for help. A bucket rope failed as he neared the top and he dangled by his foot caught in a chain. Rescuers improvised a rope, tied him to the bucket, and pulled him out unconscious after twenty minutes. A doctor attended him but he remained insensible and was not expected to recover.
