HOWARD’S ELEPHANT MAY YET BE RETURNEDNorman Howard, proprietor of the Acme Supply Co., believes he has located his woodqp elephant stolen frpm thle side of the Bath-Brunswlcfc road recently. It was reported £hat the life size elephant passed last week in Sanford, and that his naturally grayish hide had been changed to a bright red.The elephant was stolen in the middle of the week a short time ago and nothing was seen or heard of Jumbo, until a South End resident called at Mr. Howard’s place of business and reported that he had seen the mammoth animal being loaded on a truck leaving town late Saturday night of the same week it was stolen from its place on the state highway.This man was well acquainted with the particular structure of the elephant and despite the fresh coat of red paint, which he said was still sticky, he recognized the beast.Mr. Howard attempted to have the animal detained in Sanford Saturday night through the police, but results are not known.However, it was understood that if it was not taken into custody at Sanford, it’s next hop would be over into New Hampshire.v
