Mr. Winn hud not seen McLaughlin for six Weeks. They pntroled the woods, watched the ferries and searched in several part* of Georgetown where the man might go but found no trace of him. Mr. Carlton was out withthem nil night and this morning deridedto go to the mill and passing the houseof Mr. Winn decided to investigate. Hestood outside the house a fe^v minutesand saw a window slowly lower, lie made up his mind that McLaughlin was inside and he summoned the three men before mentioned and yelled to McLaughlin if hr was there to come out or he would come in and get him. There was no answer. Mr. Wfnn had gone from thehouse, leaving for work early, and the doors were locked, Mr. Carlton climbed through a small cellar window and made hL way stealthily through the house. In a dark chamber on the second floor I/*heard someone moving about. He askedthe man. who proved to be MeLaughlin.to come out. MeLaughlin declined and Carlton entered the room and they fought. McLaughlin thought Carlton was going to kill him and fought like a wild man but Mr. Carlton was enraged at the treatment of his children and was the successful combatant. The drop to the ground, taken by McLaughlin when Carlton threw him out the window, sash and all. was 11 fe*t.Since tin; fftTair Mr. Carlton has learned from Harold Fish that McLaughlinwas seen lurking in his driveway a few nights ago.
