In March 1871 a donation of 523.50 from an unknown friend was sent to Samuel Bailey then president of Bath Marine National Bank for the Marine Hospital of Bath. Since no hospital existed the fund was kept idle until trustees sought its possession for the Bath City hospital. Harold M. Sewall aided Washington officials, leading to the fund being turned over to the Bath City hospital. The balance with interest totals about SPathag.
Carleton of the Colonial baseball team pitched for Brunswick as they defeated Wortinhes six to two in Lisbon Falls Monday night. Carleton struck out 13, while Dugas and Lachance led Brunswick with strong hitting. The scoreline shows Brunswick's two runs in the first, late-inning insurance, and notable plays by Priests and Dugas.
Myron McNeil and others connected with Bath players appear in regional games across towns this summer. McNeil had six assists in a 2 to 0 loss for the Easterns of South Brewer, with credit disputed. J T Garside of Richard Vines Co and Bath patrolman Rupert Miller clashed while arresting Joseph McDonald after he allegedly kicked Miller. A misdirected blow with a billy struck Garside instead of McDonald. Garside, unhurt and good humored, assisted Miller, McDonald was taken to the station, Miller received medical care and continued duty.
Portland figure Lyman Nelson of the State Highway Commission is set to address the Twin County Farm and Andros Coggin and Sagadahee Pomona Granges at Frost Park on August 22. The veteran advocate of rural roads criticizes trunk-line spending and urges improved rural market routes though his views differ from some commission colleagues.
William D Mussenden of Bath, a veteran retired cashier, marked his 87th birthday with a family noon dinner at his daughter Mrs. Rupert Baxter on Washington street. He remains in good health and walks downtown daily. Firemen and local friends offered salutes as they passed. His daughter Myre Houghton McLellan and son William Mussenden, a Mall Trust Co. cashier, are noted attendees.
Bil Carleton and Squeak Grindle attended a Friday night game at Lisdon Falls between the Werumbes and Lewiston Eagles. The Eagles did not win as the text describes pitching, fielding, and a limited innings play. The reported action references several players and unclear events with several garbled phrases.
An Improvement Association hosted a lawn party at a cottage, with Mr. Fred Quren and Mrs. Clara Noses among attendees. Early evening events included socializing and refreshments as guests enjoyed the gathering.
A new tabernacle at Wiscasset Maine rises on a sloped lot near the harbor and highway. Erected largely by volunteers, the 120 by 72 foot building seats 1500, features a large illuminated cross and rainproof construction. Daily Bible conferences will run through the month with varied speakers from Boston, Montreal and beyond. Rev Lawrence Greenwood leads a strong roster including Mrs Robertson, Mr Robertson, Miss Louise Melvin and Mr Harold Holbrook, promising large crowds and lively services.
Lieutenant John A. Lord of Bath will deliver the historical address at the 75th annual Nathan Lord descendants reunion at the Lord homestead in Old Fields South Berwick on Thursday June 17. The program includes a predestiny address, band selections, and a historic tablet dedication honoring the founder of the Lord family.

Fire confined mostly to one brick building with minor damage to nearby structures. five figures insured, building owned by the Lewis Th. Swett estate.
The first cooperative tuberculosis test in the Berth area found a low overall infection rate of 0.76 percent. Federal inspector Dr J B Reidy praised the effort and noted three heavily infected herds were removed, protecting community health. A tabulation by Health Officer Kingsley accompanied the report.
A large Elks gathering featured a lively dance night led by Manediay Hight. The floor had been thoroughly smoothed for comfort and great music kept dancers on the floor close to midnight. The next dance is Thursday night.
Capt Ernest J Wesson a former Bath resident now in Lewiston will aid a federal probe into wartime profiteering. He works with ex Congressman Raseae Metul lengh and Justice Dept special assistant Daneherty in the investigation of carpenters cantonments construction. Also noted are a Bath storekeeper Miss N Lol Card and local residents tied to the inquiry.
