He praised Rockefeller and Carnegie distributions but opposed Wall Street as a group of banks and Jews he equates with war profiteering. he condemned killing young men in war.
The Republic Iron and Steel Co announces the first curtailment of steel operations due to a car shortage. Eight of its fifteen sheet mills at the Niles plant are shut down, effective immediately, in Youngstown Ohio.
Des Moines in September reports Austin Haines editor of the Des Moines Daily News was fined one dollar and sentenced to one day in jail by Judge J Hune for contempt and insolence after criticizing the judge. An appeal to the state Supreme Court was announced despite the editor’s claim to serve the sentence immediately.
An unconfirmed report circulated through the Hungarian embassy in Paris claiming a revolution in Serbia and the assassination of the King. The Belgrade press bureau denied the news, attributing the reports to enemy propaganda.

He entered a dark room to fetch his remedy and grabbed the wrong bottle. Doctors administered emetics and antidotes and he is expected to recover.
Plans for a nonstop flight from San Diego to New York by Lieuts. Oakley G. Kelly of Grove City and John A. MacReady of Los Angeles were announced by the air service with a probable start date of October 6.
In South Bend Indiana Judge C L Iwombe found haberdasher Harry Poulin not guilty of fathering Mrs Augusta Tiernan's third child. The verdict noted intimate relations occurred but the husband lived with Tiernan, shifting responsibility to him. Tiernan attorneys said they would appeal to the U S Supreme Court if needed. Prof Tiernan called the decision surprising and unbelievable.
Seven persons are dead in a five story New York apartment house fire on 109th street and more than a score are seriously injured. One victim is a four year old baby hurled from a window by its mother as the blaze raged.
Dr. Samuel Dickie, president emeritus of Albion College, orders students to smoke only in a cowshed to protect others from tobacco smoke. He condemns public smoking as vulgar and infringes on others rights to clean air.
Five thousand men clean Samara streets while residents receive U S relief meals. Each child must use a soap bar monthly for access to kitchen aid.
