Legionaires canvass city for Sweetheart Town tickets

Creston legionaires conduct a house to house ticket drive in the north city to support the national five million dollar endowment for disabled World War veterans and orphans. McKinley park auditorium hosts Sweetheart Town on September 28 and 29 as part of the fund drive. The Creston post quota is 1061.15 dollars and the drive aims to finish by Wednesday evening. Post Commander Fred Kunath appeals for legion auxiliary and veterans clubs to join the effort.

Sullivan Rites in Des Moines

Funeral services for John B Sullivan an attorney who practiced in Creston from 1894 to 1899 and who died suddenly in Des Moines will be held at St Johns church in Des Moines at 9 am Wednesday with burial in a Des Moines cemetery. He served as Creston city solicitor Union county attorney and was a Polk County legislator. Survivors include his widow Celia Norton a son Norton two brothers a sister and other Creston relatives. Funeral services will be held in Des Moines tomorrow.

A fire starting in the Vernon club in Tia Juana swept an entire block in San Diego California declared a loss near one million dollars. In Toledo on September 22, thieves stole registered and first class mail of undetermined value from Union station. The loot included a pouch of registered mail a hand package resembling a jeweler's box a registered letter and a hand package holding about 25 first class letters.

Two Cincinnati Symphony musicians entertained the Creston Rotary club during the weekly dinner at Iowana hotel.
